संजय उवाच ततः स पाण्डवानीके जनयन् सुमहद् भयम्। व्यचरत् पृतनां द्रोणो दहन कक्षमिवानलः॥

Sanjaya said Then Drona creating great confusion c*! the ranks of the Pandava host, trampled : under foot, like a forest-conflagration burning down trees.

Drona Parva 14.1

निद्रहन्तमनीकानि साक्षादग्निमिवोत्थितम्। दृष्ट्वा रुक्मरथं क्रुद्धं समकम्पन्त सृञ्जया:॥

The Srinjayas began to tremble with fear, seeing that enraged hero of the golden cam (Drona), consume their division like a raging conflagration.

Drona Parva 14.2

सततं कृष्यतः संख्ये धनुषोऽस्याशुकारिणः। जयाघोषः शुश्रुवेऽत्यर्थं विस्फूर्जितमिवाशनेः॥

In that battle, they heard the twang of the constantly stretched bow of that warrior of great activity, twang that resembled the rumbling of the thunder.

Drona Parva 14.3

रथिनः सादिनश्चैव नागानश्वान् पदातिनः। रौद्रा हस्तवता मुक्ताः सम्मृद्नन्ति स्म सायका॥

Terrible shafts shot by that one of great lightness of hands, completely crushed carwarriors and cavalry and clephants horses and infantry.

Drona Parva 14.4

नानद्यमानः पर्जन्यः प्रवृद्धः शुचिसंक्षये। अश्मवर्षमिवावर्षत् परेषामावहद् भयम्॥

At the expiration of the summer, like the rain-cloud, assisted by the strong gale, showering its contents, Drona, pouring streams of iron-tipped arrows, struck terror into the hearts of his enemies.

Drona Parva 14.5

विचरन् स तदा राजन सेनां संक्षोभयन् प्रभुः। वर्धयामास संत्रासं शात्रवाणाममानुषम्॥

Then, O king, that puissant one careering through the troops of the enemy and agitating them, aggravated their fears.

Drona Parva 14.6

तस्य विद्युदिवाभ्रेषु चापं हेमपरिष्कृतम्। भ्रमद्रथाम्बुदे चास्मिन् दृश्यते स्म पुनः पुनः ॥

Like flashes of lightning traversing dense of clouds, his bow of golden effulgence, was repeatedly seen to flash in his whirling car that resembled a mass of cloud itself.

Drona Parva 14.7

स वीरः सत्यवान् प्राज्ञो धर्मनित्यः सदा पुनः। युगान्तकालवद् घोरां रोद्रां प्रावर्तयनदीम्॥

That hero, ever devoted to truth, endued with intelligence and firm righteousness, then caused a dreadful river with swelling currents, to flow there, that appeared like the one seen at the end of a Yuga.

Drona Parva 14.8

अमर्षवेगप्रभवां क्रव्यादगणसंकुलाम्। बलौघैः सर्वत: पूर्णो ध्वजवृक्षापहारिणीम्॥

That had its origin in the flow of Dronas wrath; that was infested with numerous masses ever ill carnivorous animals; that was filled with waves consisting of the troops; the ate away the trees (standing on its banks) consisting of heroic warriors.

Drona Parva 14.9

शोणितोदां रथावर्ती हस्त्यश्वकृतरोधसम्। कवचोडुपसंयुक्तां मांसपङ्कसमाकुलाम्॥

That had blood for its waters, cars, for its eddies, elephants and horses for its banks, armours for its rows of lotuses and flesh for the mire filling its bed.

Drona Parva 14.10

मेदोमज्जास्थिसिकतामुष्णीषचयफेनिलाम्। संग्रामजलदापूर्णो प्रासमत्स्यसमाकुलाम्॥

That had, fat, marrow and bones, for its beaches and excellent head-gears for its froth; that had the raging encounter for the cloudy canopy over its surface and the split lances for the fishes that abounded in it.

Drona Parva 14.11

नरनागाश्वकलिला शरवेगौधवाहिनीम्। शरीरदारुसंघट्टां रथकच्छपसंकुलाम्॥

That was inaccessible in conscquence of the corpses of large number of men, elephants and horses; that flew in strong currents constituted by the impetus of the shafts; that had the slain bodies for logs of timber floating on it; that swarmed with tortoises constituted by cars.

Drona Parva 14.12

उत्तमाङ्गैः पङ्कजिनी निस्त्रिंशझषसंकुलाम्। रथनागह्रदोपेतां नानाभरणभूषिताम्॥

That had heads for pebbles scattered on its banks; that had scimitars for the fishes abounding in it; that had elephants and chariots for its lakes; that was adorned with many ornaments.

Drona Parva 14.13

महारथशतावर्ती भूमिरेणूर्मिमालिनीम्। महावीर्यवतां संख्ये सुतरूं भीरुदुस्तराम्॥

That had mighty car-warriors for its hundred little whirlpools; that was ornamented with little wavelets constituted by the dust of the earth; that was capable of being crossed over in battle by those endued with great prowess and incapable of being crossed by the cowards.

Drona Parva 14.14

शरीरशतसम्बाधां गृध्रकङ्कनिषेविताम्। महारथसहस्राणि नयन्तीं यमसादनम्॥

That had heaps of corpses obstructing its navigation; that was haunted by Kankas, and vultures; that carried, by thousand, mighty carwarriors to the regions of Death.

Drona Parva 14.15

शूलव्यालसमाकीर्णां प्राणिवाजिनिषेविताम्। छिन्नक्षत्रमहाहंसां मुकुटाण्डजसेविताम्॥

That was infested by snakes consisting of the (broken) spears; that abounded in aquatic fowls consisting of living fighters, that had torn umbrellas for its large swans and (fallen) diadems for its smaller birds.

Drona Parva 14.16

चक्रकूर्मो गदानकां शरक्षुद्रझषाकुलाम् बकगृध्रसृगालानां घोरसंधैर्निषेविताम्॥

That had wheels (or discs) for its turtles and maces for its sharks and arrows for its smaller fishes; that was resorted to by fearful swarms of crows, vultures and jackals.

Drona Parva 14.17

निहतान प्राणिनः संख्ये द्रोणेन बलिना रणे। वहन्ती पितृलोकाय शतशो राजसत्तमम्॥

And, O foremost of kings, that bore in hundreds to the regions of the ancestral manes, beings slain by the powerful Drona in that battle.

Drona Parva 14.18

शरीरशतसम्बाधां केशशैवलशाद्वलाम्। नदी प्रावर्तयद् राजन् भीरूणां भयवर्धिनीम्॥

That was choked up with heaps of dead bodies; that had hair for its mosses and weeds. O monarch, such a river Drona caused to flow, that enhanced the apprehension of the cowards.

Drona Parva 14.19

तर्जयन्तमनीकानि तानि तानि महारथम्। सर्वतोऽभ्यद्रवन द्रोणं युधिष्ठिरपुरोगमाः॥

Then all those divisions having Yudhishthira at their head, assaulted on all sides that mighty car-warrior Drona who had been uttering loud shouts.

Drona Parva 14.20

तानभिद्रवतः शूरांस्तावका दृढ़विक्रमाः। सर्वतः प्रत्यगृह्णन्त तदभूल्लोमहर्षणम्॥

Then all your heroic troops endued with steady prowess received (unflinchingly) that rushing army on all sides, the result was horripilating

Drona Parva 14.21

शतमायस्तु शकुनिः सहदेवं समाद्रवत्। सनियन्तृध्वजरथं विव्याध निशितैः शरैः॥

Shakuni conversant with hundred kinds of deceitful practices, encountered Sahadeva, piercing the latters charioteer, chariot and flagstaff with sharpened shafts.

Drona Parva 14.22

तस्य माद्रीसुतः केतुं धनुः सूतं हयानपि। नातिक्रुद्धः शरैश्छित्त्वा षष्ट्या विव्याध सौबलम्।। २३

Thereupon the son of Madri, wrought up with ire, cut down with his arrows, the standard, bow, charioteer and steeds of the son of Subala and then pierced the latter with sixty shafts.

Drona Parva 14.23

सौबलस्तु गदां गृह्य प्रचस्कन्द रथोत्तमात्। स तस्य गदया राजन् रथात् सूतमपातयत्॥

Thereupon the son of Subala, grasping a mace, jumped down from his best of cars; then with the stroke of his mace, he felled, O king, the driver of Sahadeva, from his chariot.

Drona Parva 14.24

ततस्तौ विरथौ राजन् गदाहस्तौ महाबलौ। चिक्रीडतू रणे शूरौ सशृङ्गाविव पर्वतौ॥

Then, O monarch, those two heroic mighty warriors deprived of their cars, armed with their clubs, began to roam in the field of battic like two mountains adorned with peaks,

Drona Parva 14.25

द्रोणः पाञ्चालराजानं विद्ध्वा दशभिराशुगैः। बहुभिस्तेन चाभ्यस्तस्तं विव्याध ततोऽधिकैः॥

Drona, having pierced the king of the Panchalas with ten swift-going (shafts), was in return, pierced by him with many shafts; and he then again pierced the latter with a still larger number of arrows.

Drona Parva 14.26

विविंशति भीमसेनो विंशत्या निशितैः शरैः। विद्ध्वा नाकम्पयद् वीरस्तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्॥

Bhimasena pierced Vivinsati with twenty keen-pointed shafts; but being so pierced, he did not tremble; and that was indeed marvelous.

Drona Parva 14.27

विविंशतिस्तु सहसा व्यश्वकेतुशरासनम्। भीमं चक्रे महाराज ततः सैनयान्यपूजयन्॥

But O mighty sovereign, Vivinsati suddenly deprived Bhimasena of his horses, standard and bow; and then the troops highly applauded him.

Drona Parva 14.28

स तन्न मसृषे वीरः शत्रोर्विक्रममाहवे। ततोऽस्य गदया दान्तान् हयान् सर्वानपातयत्॥

But the latter did not tolerate that act of prowess achieved by his adversary in battle; and then with his mace he felled the excellently trajned horses of Vivinsati.

Drona Parva 14.29

हताश्वात् सरथाद् राजन् गृह्य चर्म महाबलः। अभ्यायाद् भीमसेनं तु मत्तो मत्तमिव द्विपम्॥

Then like an infuriated clephant rushing at an infuriated rival, the puissant Vivinsati, grasping a buckler, jumped down from his car the steeds of which had been slain and assaulted Bhimasena.

Drona Parva 14.30

शल्यस्तु नकुलं वीर: स्वस्त्रीयं प्रियमात्मनः। विव्याध प्रहसन् बाणैालयन् कोपयन्निव॥

The heroic Shalya, pierced, smilingly, his own dear nephew Nakula, as if in dalliance, with arrows, in order to excite the latter's Wrath.

Drona Parva 14.31

तस्याश्वानातपत्रं च ध्वजं सूतमथो धनुः। निपात्य नकुलः संख्ये शङ्ख दध्मौ प्रतापवान्॥

But the mighty Nakula, cutting dowii, in the battle, Shalya's steeds, umbrella, standard, charioteer and bow, blew his conch.

Drona Parva 14.32

धृष्टकेतुः कृपेणास्तान् छित्त्वा बहुविधाञ्छरान्। कृपं विव्याध सप्तत्या लक्ष्म चास्याहरत् त्रिभिः॥

Dhristaketu having sundered in twain various shafts shot by Kripa, pierced the latter with seventy arrows; and then with three more cut-off the device on Kripa's standard.

Drona Parva 14.33

तं कृपः शरवर्षण महता समवारयत्। विव्याध च रणे विप्रो धृष्टकेतुममर्षणम्॥

Thereupon Kripa encompassed him with a unighty shower of arrows; thus holding Dhristaketu in check, the Vipra fought on with him, in battle.

Drona Parva 14.34

सात्यकिः कृतवर्माणं नाराचेन स्तनान्तरे। विद्ध्वा विव्याध सप्तत्या पुनरन्यैः स्मयन्निव॥

Satyaki pierced Kritavarman in the middle of his breast with a Naracha; then again piercing him with seventy arrows, he dove many more inside the latter's body laughing all the while.

Drona Parva 14.35

तं भोजः सप्तसप्तत्या विद्ध्वाऽऽशु निशितैःशरैः। नाकम्पयत शैनेयं शीघ्रो वायुरिवाचलम्॥

The warrior of the Bhoja race, then pierced Satyaki with seven and seventy keen pointed arrows; but he failed to move the latter like the fleet wind failing to move the mountain.

Drona Parva 14.36

सेनापतिः सुशर्माणं भृशं मर्मस्वताडयत्। स चापि तं तोमरेण जत्रुदेशेऽभ्यताडयत्॥

Senapati sorely pierced Susarman to the very quick. The latter also struck the former on the shoulder-joint with a Tomara (or lance).

Drona Parva 14.37

वैकर्तनं त समरे विराटः प्रत्यवारयत्। सह मत्स्यैर्महावीर्यस्तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्॥

King Virata, with the highly puissant Matsyas, opposed in battle the of Vikartana. And there raged a wonderful combat.

Drona Parva 14.38

तत् पौरुषमभूत् तत्र सूतपुत्रस्य दारुणम्। यत् सैन्यं वारयामास शरैः संनतपर्वभिः॥

Then a great feat was achieved by the son of the charioteer, when he held the whole force (of Virata) in check with (a shower ot) his shafts of close-joints.

Drona Parva 14.39

द्रुपदस्तु स्वयं राजा भगदत्तेन संगतः। तयोर्युद्धं महाराज चित्ररूपमिवाभवत्॥

King Drupada himself was engaged with Bhagadatta. O mighty monarch, the combat between them was indeed marvellous.

Drona Parva 14.40

भगदत्तस्तु राजानं दुपदं नतपर्वभिः। सनियन्तृध्वजरथं विव्याध पुरुषर्षभः॥

Bhagadatta, the foremost of men, pierced with close-jointed shafts, king Drupada, his charioteer, flag-staffs and chariot.

Drona Parva 14.41

द्रुपदस्तु ततः क्रुद्धो भगदत्तं महारथम्। आजधानोरसि क्षिप्रं शरेणानतपर्वणा॥

Thereupon, wrought up with ire, king Drupada, swiftly struck the mighty car-warrior Bhagadatta on the chest with a close-jointed Shafi.

Drona Parva 14.42

युद्धं योधवरौ लोके सौमदत्तिशिखण्डिनौ। भूतानां त्रासजननं चक्रातेऽस्त्रविशारदौ॥

Those two foremost of warriors on carth, both conversant with the use of weapons, namely, Sikhandin and the son of Somadatta, fought with one another in a combat that inspired terror into the hearts of all creatures.

Drona Parva 14.43

भूरिश्रवा रणे राजन् याज्ञसेनं महारथम्। महता सायकौघेन छादयामास वीर्यवान्॥

Bhurisrava endued with great prowess, O king, covered in battle with a great stream of arrows, the mighty car-warrior, the son of Yajnasena.

Drona Parva 14.44

शिखण्डी तु ततः क्रुद्धः सौमदत्तिं विशाम्पते। नवत्या सायकानां तु कम्पयामास भारत॥

O ruler of men, Sikhandin, filled with rage, picrced the son of Somadatta with ninety shafts and, O Bharata, caused hinm to tremble.

Drona Parva 14.45

राक्षसौ रौद्रकर्माणौ हैडिम्बालम्बुषावुभौ। चक्रातेऽत्यद्भुतं युद्धं परस्परजयैषिणौ॥

The two Rakshasas of fierce deeds, viz., Hidimba and Alambusha, desirous of vanquishing cach other, were engaged in a terrible combat.

Drona Parva 14.46

मायाशतसृजौ दृप्तौ मायाभिरितरेतरम्। अन्तर्हितौ चेरतुस्तौ भृशं विस्मयकारिणौ॥

Capable of creating a hundred illusions, inflamed with arrogance and each desirous of vanquishing the other, they fought a wonderful battle assailing one another with their power of iilusions.

Drona Parva 14.47

चेकितानोऽनुविन्देन युयुधे चातिभैरवम्। यथा देवासुरे युद्धे बलशक्रौ महाबलौ॥

The dreadful Chekitana fought with Anuvindha; they careered through the field of battle, disappearing at times and exciting great wonder.

Drona Parva 14.48

लक्ष्मणः क्षत्रदेवेन विमर्दमकरोद् भृशम्। यथा विष्णुः पुरा राजन् हिरण्याक्षेण संयुगे॥

Lakshmana was engaged in a terrible combat with Kshatradeva, as, O monarch, Vishnu was, in days of yore, engaged with the Daitya Hiranyakashipu.

Drona Parva 14.49

ततः प्रचलिताश्वेन विधिवत्कल्पितेन च। रथेनाभ्यपतद् राजन् सौभद्रं पौरवो नदन्॥

Then, O king, Paurava, uitering a loud roar and mounting on a car, to which were yoked fleet steeds and which was properly furnished, rushed at the son of Subhadra,

Drona Parva 14.50

ततोऽभ्ययात् सत्वरितो युद्धाकाक्षी महाबलः। तेन चक्रे महद् युद्धमभिमन्युररिंदमः॥

Then desirous of battle, Paurava possessed of great might assaulted Abliimanyu. Then that grinder of focs (Abhimanyu) battled fiercely with his antagonist.

Drona Parva 14.51

पौरवस्त्वथ सौभद्रं शरव्रतैरवाकिरत्। तस्या निर्ध्वजं छत्रं धनुश्चोक्मपातयत्॥

Then the son of Puru covered the son of Subhadra with a thick shower of arrows. Then the son of Arjuna cut down on earth the standard, umbrella and steeds of the former.

Drona Parva 14.52

सौभद्रः पौरवं त्वन्यैर्विद्ध्वा सप्तभिराशुगैः। पञ्चभिस्तस्य विव्याध हयान् सूतं च सायकैः॥

Then the son of Subhadra having pierced Paurava with seven swiftly-flying arrows, pierced with five shafts his charioteer and horses.

Drona Parva 14.53

ततः प्रहर्षयन् सेनां सिंहवद् विनदन् मुहुः। समादत्तार्जुनिस्तूर्णे पौरवान्तकरं शरम्॥

Thus imparting delight to his own troops and repeatedly uttering leonine roars, Arjuna's son quickly took in his hand a shaft that was sure to cause Paurava's death.

Drona Parva 14.54

तं तु संधितमाज्ञाय सायकं घोरदर्शनम्। द्वाभ्यां शराभ्यां हार्दिक्यश्चिच्छेद सशरं धनुः॥

The son of Hridika seeing that shaft of dreadful sight fixed on the bow-string (of Subinadra's son) cut it down, along with the bow, with two arrows.

Drona Parva 14.55

तदुत्सृज्य धनुश्छिन्नं सौभद्रः परवीरहा। उद्ववर्ह सितं खङ्गमाददानः शरावरम्॥

Thereupon throwing aside that severed bow, the son of Subhadra, that slayer of inimical heroes, grasping a sharp sword and a buckler jumped down (from his car).

Drona Parva 14.56

स तेनानेकतारेण चर्मणा कृतहस्तवत्। भ्रान्तासिनाचरन्मार्गान् दर्शयन् वीर्यमात्मनः॥

Then whirling that buckler bearing the devices of many stars which seemed to be identified with his hands as also the sword, he careered through the field of battle displaying his prowess.

Drona Parva 14.57

भ्रामितं पुनरुद्धान्तमाधूतं पुनरुत्थितम्। चर्मनिस्त्रिंशयो राजन् निर्विशेषमदृश्यत॥

O king, whirling the weapons by his sides and whirling them on high and shaking them and himself jumping up he made the distinction between the sword and shield to to be imperceptible.

Drona Parva 14.58

स पौरवरथस्येषामाप्लुत्य सहसा नदन्। पौरवं रथमास्थाय केशपक्षे परामृशत्॥

Then with a loud shout he suddenly leapt upon the shaft of Paurava's car; then ascending the car he dragged Paurava by the hair.

Drona Parva 14.59

जघानास्य पदा सूतमसिनापातयद् ध्वजम्। विक्षोभ्याम्भोनिधि ताह्मस्तं नागमिव चाक्षिपत्॥

Then with a kick of his leg he killed the latter's charioteer and with his sword cut down the standard; then he threw off Paurava, like the son of Tarkhya throwing aside a snake that he had seized having agitated the waters of the ocean.

Drona Parva 14.60

तमागलितकेशान्तं ददृशुः सर्वपार्थिवाः। उक्षाणमिव सिंहेन पात्यमानमचेतसम्॥

Then all the rulers of earth saw Paurava with disheveled hair resembling an ox deprived of his senses, while on the point of being felled by a lion.

Drona Parva 14.61

तमा निवशं प्राप्तं कृष्यमाणमनाथवत्। पौरवं पातितं दृष्ट्वा नामृष्यत जयद्रथः।६२॥

Then beholding Paurava at the mercy of the son of Arjuna and dragged like one helpless and fallen on the ground, Jayadratha did not tolerate it.

Drona Parva 14.62

स बर्हिबर्हावततं किंकिणीशतजालवत्। चर्म चादाय खङ्गं च नदन् पर्यपतद् रथात्॥

Grasping a sword and a shield decorated with the emblem of a peacock and furnished with a row of hundred small tinklers and uttering a loud roar, he jumped down from his chariot.

Drona Parva 14.63

ततः सैन्धवमालोक्य कार्ष्णिरुत्सृज्य पौरवम्। उत्पपात रथात् तूर्णे श्येनवनिपपात च॥

Thereupon the nephew of of Krishna beholding the prince of the Sindhus, left Paurava alone and like a hawk suddenly jumped down from the latter's car.

Drona Parva 14.64

प्रासपट्टिशनिस्त्रिशाञ्छत्रुभिः सम्प्रचोदितान्। चिच्छेद चासिना कार्ष्णिश्चर्मणा संसरोध च॥

The nephew of Krishna, severed down with his sword or warded off with his shield, the Prasas (lances) Pattishas (axes) and scimitars directed to him by his enemies.

Drona Parva 14.65

स दर्शयित्वा सैन्यानां स्वबाहुबलमात्मनः। तमुद्यम्य महाखङ्गं चर्म चाथ पुनर्बली॥ वृद्धक्षत्रस्य दायादं पितुरत्यन्तवैरिणम्। ससाराभिमुखः शूरः शार्दूल इव कुञ्जरम्॥

Then displaying to the troops the might of his own arms, that puissant hero again uplifting his heavy sword and his shield, advanced towards the son of Vriddhakshatra, the eternal enemy of his father, like a tiger rushing at an elephant.

Drona Parva 14.66

तौ परस्परमासाद्य खड्गदन्तनखायुधौ। हृष्टवत् सम्प्रजह्राते व्याघ्रकेसरिणाविव॥

Then having encountered each other as if out of delight, they began to strike each other with their swords, like a tiger and a lion attacking each other with teeth and claws.

Drona Parva 14.67

सम्पातेष्वभिघातेषु निपातेष्वसिचर्मणोः। न तयोरन्तरं कश्चिद् ददर्श नरसिंहयोः॥

Between those two foremost of men no person could notice any distinctiun regarding the whirl, the strokes and the descent of their swords and shields.

Drona Parva 14.68

अवक्षेपोऽसिनिर्हादः शस्त्रान्तरनिदर्शनम्। बाह्यान्तरनिपातश्च निर्विशेषमदृश्यत॥

There seemed no distinction between them as regards the descent and the whirl of their swords and the warding off of each other's blows.

Drona Parva 14.69

बाह्यमाभ्यन्तरं चैव चरन्तौ मार्गमुत्तमम्। ददृशाते महात्मानौ सपक्षाविव पर्वतौ॥

Then those two high-souled ones, careering inward and outward, in most excellent tracks, appeared like two mountains furnished with wings.

Drona Parva 14.70

ततो विक्षिपतः खङ्गं सौभद्रस्य यशस्विनः। शरावरणपक्षान्ते प्रजहार जयद्रथः॥

Then when the high-famed son of Subhadra was on the point of bringing down his sword on the head of Jayadratha, the latter struck him on his shield.

Drona Parva 14.71

रुक्मपत्रान्तरे सक्तस्तस्मिंश्चर्मणि भास्वरे। सिन्धुराजबलोद्भूतः सोऽभज्यत महानसिः॥

Then that mighty sword, struck into the gold plate of Abhimanyu's buckler, O Bharata, broke (in twain) as the king of the Sindhus tried to take it off with force.

Drona Parva 14.72

भग्नमाज्ञाय निस्त्रिंशमवप्लुत्य पदानि षट्। अदृश्यत निमेषेण स्वरथं पुनरास्थितः॥

Beholding his own sword break, Jayadratha receded six steps and within an wink of the eye, was seen to be mounted on his own car.

Drona Parva 14.73

तं कार्णिं समरान्मुक्तमास्थितं रथमुत्तमम्। सहिताः सर्वराजानः परिवतः सन्ततः॥

Drona Parva 14.76

तस्य सर्वायसी शक्तिं शल्यः कनकभूषणाम्। चिक्षेप समरे घोरां दीप्तामग्निशिखामिव॥

Thereupon, at him (Abhimanyu) Shalya hurled, in battle, his dreadful dart made of all iron, decked with gold and resembling a flashing flame of fire.

Drona Parva 14.80

सा तस्य रथमासाद्य निर्मुक्तभुजगोपमा। जघान सूतं शल्यस्य रथाच्चैनमपातयत्॥
